USA snatches gold medal in women\'s 4x100m relay

A powerful U.S. sprint quartet snatched their sixth Worlds gold medal in the women\'s 4x100m relay here on Sunday, clocking a year\'s leading mark of 41.56 seconds, while defending champion Jamaica finished second. The winning time is the fastest in the worlds in the past 14 years. The U.S. team, fielding Bianca Knight, Allyson Felix, Marshevet Myers and the newly crowned 100m world champion Carmelita Jeter, looked to be a bit behind their Jamaican rivals after three legs, but with a better final changover, Jeter stormed ahead with a solid advantage. Although the 200m champion Veronica Campbell-Brown significantly narrowed the gap during the final 100m race, but it was too late for the defending champions to make a conversion. Featuring Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce, Kerron Stewart and Sherone Simpson as their first three legs, the Jamaican quartet nevertheless rewrote their national record with 41.70. The bronze medal went to Ukraine, who clocked a season\'s best of 42.51.
