World champion Rolland to miss Olympics

France\'s world downhill champion Marion Rolland will miss the Sochi Olympics because of a serious injury to her right knee, the French ski federation (FFS) announced Friday. The 30-year-old sustained the injury in a training fall in the Nevados de Chillan in Chile on Sunday. Rolland underwent an MRI scan on her return to France which confirmed a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament and a sprained medial collateral ligament in her right knee. Rolland, who won the world title in Schladming, Austria, earlier this year, would have been one of the favourites for gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics which start in February. She has twice undergone surgery to repair damaged ligaments on the same knee in 2007 and 2010. The second surgery followed a fall in the downhill at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
