Betting company to sponsor Davis Cup, Fed Cup

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) on Wednesday defended its decision to sign up one of the world's top online betting companies to sponsor its flagship Davis Cup and Fed Cup events.

Betway was introduced as an international sponsor at last week's Fed Cup final in Prague.

The company's sponsorship of both the men's and women's team competitions will continue for three years until 2018.

"All elements of the new partnership are fully compliant with the rules and interpretations of the tennis anti-corruption programme," an ITF statement said.

ITF president David Haggerty was also quick to reassure fans that the sport's welfare was in good hands.

"The ITF welcomes Betway to our family of sponsors," said Haggerty.

"Betway is a well-respected international betting brand. The ITF and Betway share the mission to keep the sport of tennis clean."
