Ben Roethlisberger admitted on Tuesday that he is a major doubt for Sunday's NFL playoff game at Denver after suffering torn ligaments and an AC joint sprain in his right shoulder.
Big Ben' revealed the extent of his injuries during a Pittsburgh radio show, bringing into question just how effective he can be against the Broncos' defensive unit in this weekend's last-eight NFL playoff showdown.
"See what I can do," Roethlisberger said. "I honestly don't know."
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin said reserve Landry Jones would spend more time preparing with the starting lineup while Roethlisberger, who may still play, is evaluated.
Roethlisberger admitted after re-entering late in a victory at Cincinnati on Saturday that he could not throw the ball more than 10 yards down the field.
It was Denver quarterback Peyton Manning who faced a similar issue before spending the past few weeks healing a left foot injury. After missing six games, he is expected to return to face the Steelers on Sunday.
Pittsburgh receiver Antonio Brown is also a question mark as he remains in the NFL concussion protocol after being struck in the head by Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict late in the fourth quarter of their playoff opener. Brown caught 16 passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns in a home win over Denver last month.
Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams, who missed the Bengals game with a right foot injury, remains "on the outside looking in" as far as facing Denver, according to Tomlin, who added: "We'll leave the door ajar for him."
