London - Arab Today
Victor Dubuisson broke clear of the pack to take the outright lead in the Turkish Airlines Open on Saturday after a third round nine under par 63. The quietly-spoken Frenchman, who had shared the lead after the first two rounds, moved to a 21-under par total of 195 to put him within touching distance of a first European Tour success. The Cannes-born Dubuisson said: ?Today?s round was one of those dream rounds where I just seemed I could do no wrong. It?s not my lowest round as I?ve had two 62s on the Tour including shooting a 62 for the Old Course record in last year?s Dunhill Links." The former world number one amateur leads by five strokes from England?s Ian Poulter who shot a third round 68 for a 16-under par total of 200. In a share for third one shot further back came Tiger Woods, whose round of 68 included a potentially nasty incident when his hand struck a tree. Joining Woods on six shots behind Dubuisson were Spain?s Alejandro Canizares (66), Sweden?s Henrik Stenson (69) and Frenchman Raphael Jacquelin who set a new Maxx Royal course record of 10-under par 62. Jacquelin birdied his opening four holes but then had a double bogey at the fifth before picking up another seven birdies including also birding his closing four holes in a record-setting total of 12 birdies. ?It was a crazy round for a crazy game,? said the bearded French golf star. ?Even with a double bogey on five, the rest was incredible and I had a lot of other chances and I made it. So it?s happy days.? Jacquelin is credited with the new Montgomerie course record given the opening two rounds were playing under a ?preferred lie? rule. The Frenchman?s tally of 12 birdies also matches the European Tour record for the number of birdies held by five players including Major Champions Fred Couples, Ernie Els and Darren Clarke. Woods ruled out undergoing any treatment after hitting a tree with his hand, Woods' tee shot at the par five 11th hole was so far right it cleared the line of spectators and coming to rest close to a large tree. But in playing a 3-wood Woods hit the tree with the club and his hand resulting in the 14-time Major winning jumping back in shock and then shaking his right hand vigorously. Woods revealed after his round that his hand was hurting but it would not require treatment. ?My arm is a little tender. I smoked it on something. I don?t know what I hit but I hit something hard,? he said. ?I just dealt with it, and you know, just play through it. ?I won?t need any treatment as anti-inflams will be good.? Woods is not only looking to win a six tournament this season but end a four-year regular European Tour winless drought. ?To birdie the last hole was a nice way to end, considering I struggled all day with swing,? said Woods. ?I was getting away with it on the front nine, but I wasn?t really playing well and it caught up with me on the back nine.?
