The New York Red Bulls missed the chance to go second in the Eastern Conference as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat at the Chicago Fire on Sunday. Patrick Nyarko put the Fire ahead in the fourth minute, before Dax McCarty levelled 10 minutes into the second half. Gonzalo Segares re-established the lead in the 68th minute and substitute Chris Rolfe added a third nine minutes before the end. In the day's other game the Los Angeles Galaxy lifted themselves off the bottom of the Western Conference with a 1-0 win over the Portland Timbers thanks to Todd Dunivant's goal in the 61st minute.
