FIS cancels Val d'Isere ski races

Alpine World Cup races scheduled for next week in Val d'Isere have been cancelled because of warm temperatures and a lack of snow, the International Ski Federation (FIS) announced on Thursday.
FIS said it is looking at other possible venues, such as Are, Sweden, for the races due to have taken place in France on December 13 and 14.
"It is a big disappointment for our skiers, our supporters and the French ski course in Val d'Isere," said Gilles Brenier, head of the French team which will compete this weekend in Beaver Creek, Colorado.
"Val d'Isere was our only race of the year in France for the boys and we will not get to compete at home. It is so important for our skiers to compete at home."
The men will take part in three races this weekend on the Birds of Prey course in Colorado, beginning with the downhill on Friday. There is also a super-G on Saturday and a giant slalom on Sunday.
It is the only men's World Cup stop in the USA.
