Spanish coach Quique Sanchez Flores has signed a one-year contract extension at Al Ahli, while Argentine playmaker Mariano Donda has agreed to a two-year renewal at Al Wasl. Flores, 47, formerly coach of Valencia and Atletico Madrid, was impressive in his first year in charge at Rashid Stadium by winning the etisalat Cup and reviving the club’s fortunes by leading it to a respectable fifth place finish. Donda, meanwhile, though part of a disappointing collective performance in which Al Wasl, finished eighth in the league and lost the GCC Champions League final, was still ever present in Maradona’s plans. Donda scored 18 in 34 games and running out the league’s third most dependable player with 1,854 minutes of football played, 93.6 per cent of Al Wasl’s season. from gulfnews.com
