Dubai - Arabstoday
Finlay Georeson and Ahmed Mahmoud reigned supreme in the second round of the UAE National Sailing Championships at Dubai Offshore Sailing Club (DOSC) on Saturday. DOSC’s Georeson won all eight races in his Optimist Cadet class and Hamriya Sailing Club’s Mahmoud won six out of eight races in the Laser 4.7 category amid heavy seas and strong wind. Elsewhere in the Laser Standard, Timothy Riley from DOSC took honours and Saeed Salem Al Zaidi from Emirates Heritage Club (EHC) won in the Laser Radial class. Hamood Salem Al Zaidi from EHC proudly took the winners medal in the Optimist Class while Ron Heyselaar from Abu Dhabi Sailing & Yacht Club (ADSYC) was first in the Open Dinghy class. Winning the Catamaran class was father and son duo Jon and Tom Hemingway who represented Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC). These seven sailing classes in the Championship are designed to develop and promote sailing and act as a selection point for UAE National sailors to represent the UAE at international level. Seventy-three boats and six sailing clubs took part in the eight race competition, which has a total of six rounds held in DOSC, EHC, ADSYC and RAK. DIMC looks forward to hosting a round in the new season. Sharon Allison of DIMC, said: “It’s incredible to see how well the younger children handle difficult sailing conditions. The sea state and wind strength on Friday was daunting for the adults let alone the children. It must boost their confidence, strength and outlook on life in so many ways by just being out their and dealing with it on their own.” The next round of competition is at EHC in Abu Dhabi on March 9th & 10th Results: Optimist Cadet -    Place Sail No Helm Club Points -    1 305 Finlay Georgeson DOSC 6 -    2 57 Ibrahim Saif Hamriya 13 -    3 17705 Shea Smith DOSC 22 -    Optimist -    1 999 Hamood Salem Al Zaidi EHC 7 -    2 304 Harry Bone Knell DOSC 10 -    3 44 Saif Ibrahim Al Naaimi EHC 17 -    Laser 4.7 -    1 31 Ahmed Mahmoud Hamriya 6 -    2 98 Hamdan Ali Al Ghailani EHC 11 -    3 194117 Jessica Shaw DOSC 19 -    Laser Radial -    1 1 Saeed Salem Al Zaidi EHC 7 -    2 87 Tallal Salem Al Zaidi EHC 11 -    3 184804 Zayed Al Naimse EHC 21 -    Laser Standard -    1 186201 Timothy Riley DOSC 6 -    2 198438 Tom Georgeson DOSC 7 -    3 199802 Stephen Rice DOSC 15 -    Open Dinghy -    1 1373 Ron Heyselaar ADSYC 2 -    2 470 Rob Spencer DOSC 4 -    3 446 Alex Buerger DOSC 8 -    Catamaran -    1 8 Jon & Tom Hemingway DIMC 8 -    2 1555 Conrad Schmindt DIMC 10 -    3 1412 Henry Clark DIMC 13
