Lithuanian captain Marius Stankevicius is set to sign for Bundesliga side Hanover 96 from Turkish outfit Gaziantepspor, the German club's sporting director Dirk Dufner announced on Saturday.
The 33-year-old defender -- who spent a season with Gaziantespor after two years at Serie A side Lazio, with whom he won the 2013 Italian Cup -- is due to undergo a medical and sign his contract on Monday.
"He is the player we have been looking for," said Dufner.
"His experience is very important for our young side."
Stankevicius, capped over 60 times and twice Lithuanian player of the year, spent most of his career in Italy with spells at Brescia, Cosenza and Sampdoria while he also played in Spain for Sevilla and Valencia.
Hanover, who finished 10th in the league last season, also were boosted by goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler, a member of the German World Cup winning squad, extending his contract for two years to June 2017.
The 25-year-old, who has not missed one minute of league action in the past three seasons, is integral to Hanover's fortunes according to coach Tayfun Korkut.
"He is a very important pillar of the team," he said.
