Olympic champion biathlete Bjorn Ferry admitted his victory in the mixed relay at the Race of Champions on Saturday came as a surprise as he had a hangover from a night out clubbing. The Swede and his Finnish partner Kaisa Makarainen won the relay in Moscow by 0.5 seconds from the second-placed pair of Russia’s Anton Shipulin and Slovakia’s Anastasia Kuzmina, with third place going to the French team of Martin Fourcade and Marie Dorin Habert. “This win was very nice for me, but along with that it was unexpected,” Ferry said. “Yesterday I was in a club, where I allowed myself some white wine, so much so that I didn’t feel very good this morning. It was quite tough.” Makarainen joined Ferry, 33, on his night out clubbing because everywhere else in Moscow was closed, she said. “I didn’t have time to look round Moscow because I flew in rather late and there was nowhere else to go apart from the club,” she said. Ferry won gold in the pursuit at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver, and has a world championship gold medal from 2007 in the mixed relay. Makarainen, 29, has won five World Cup events, three of them in the pursuit.
