DR Congo's TP Mazembe Englebert defeated Egyptian side Zamalek 2-0 in Lubumbashi on Saturday to their rekindle hopes of reaching the CAF Champions League semi-finals. Victory lifted the Ravens to four points, level with Berekum Chelsea and two points adrift of leaders and record six-time champions Al Ahly of Egypt. A third consecutive loss leaves five-time title holders Zamalek with virtually no chances of a top-two finish and a place in the penultimate round of the premier African club competition. Zamalek were lucky to escape with only a two-goal loss as veteran goalkeeper Abdel Wahed Al Sayed made a series of brilliant saves to keep the game goaless for 70 minutes. But when the Cairo team failed to clear a corner, the ball was fired low across the goalmouth and substitute Ngandu Kasongo stuck out a foot at the far post to put the 2010 FIFA Club World Cup runners-up ahead. Tanzanian Mbwana Samata put the outcome beyond doubt on 77 minutes when he rose unopposed to nod a deep cross wide of Al Sayed to the delight of a capacity 15,000 crowd basking in sunshine. FIFA
