Morelia guarded their unbeaten record and climbed to second place in the Mexican Apertura as Joao Rojas scored twice in a 3-1 win at Leon. The visitors even finished with ten men, having Uriel Alvarez dismissed with half an hour remaining, but the victory margin was comfortable. Morelia went in front after 17 minutes with a two-yard tap-in from Rojas, and doubled their lead nine minutes later when Joel Huiqui headed in following a free-kick delivered from the right. Matias Britos prodded Leon back to within one goal three minutes into the second half, and when Alvarez was dismissed an opportunity opened up. But a dreadful goalkeeping error by Meliton Hernandez in the 78th minute gifted Morelia their third goal. Rojas gathered the ball with his back to goal on the left side of the penalty area and shuffled into a shooting position before driving a low, tame shot from 15 yards that Hernandez let slip through his fingers. Morelia have three wins and three draws from their opening six matches. Jaguares, meanwhile, won a clash of two sides who had yet to taste victory as they beat Queretaro 2-1. Queretaro led from the 62nd minute when Mitchel Oviedo seized on a poor defensive header to squeeze a shot in from a tight angle, but Jaguares were level 15 minutes later when Luis Rey curled home a left-footed strike from 20 yards. The decider in the 89th minute owed everything to good fortune, as an intended low cross from Franco Arizala took a wicked deflection off Efrain Cortes to divert in as an own goal. FIFA
