Russian Football Union was elected Nikolai Tolstykh as its new president on Monday. The union held an emergency meeting here in Moscow during which Tolstykh won the election in the second round, local media reported. He would lead the union in the coming four years. The post of the union president had been vacant since the resignation of its former head Sergei Fursenko following the euro 2012 football tournament. The Russian national soccer team didn't perform well and suffered an early exit at the championships. Tolstykh, former head of Russian Professional Football League, was nominated by the Children's Football League and the Kostroma Football Federation for the union position, local media reported. Before being elected as the new president, Tolstykh was the union's vice president and the Russian Olympic Committee's executive director.
