Khulna - AFP
West Indian captain Darren Sammy took two wickets to reduce Bangladesh to 88-3 at lunch on the opening day of the second and final Test. The medium-pacer had Shahariar Nafees (26) caught behind and bowled opener Tamim Iqbal (32) in quick succession to derail the home team who won the toss and decided to bat on a slow Sheikh Abu Naser Stadium pitch. Naeem Islam was unbeaten on 15 and with him Shakib Al Hasan eight not out at the interval. Bangladesh, who trail 0-1 in the series after losing the first Test by 77 runs in Dhaka, never got the desired start to kick off strongly in the match they needed to win to level the series. Nazimuddin, brought in for failed opener Junaid Siddique, fell to a short ball from paceman Fidel Edwards in the third over of the innings after scoring just four. Iqbal and Nafees batted sensibly to add 59 for the second wicket but Sammy struck twice to give the West Indies the upper hand. Nafees edged a wide delivery to the wicket-keeper while Iqbal was bowled off a sharp incoming delivery. Bangladesh also included 20-year-old paceman Abul Hasan in place of Shahadat Hossain. Hasan made his Test debut. The West Indies replaced paceman Ravi Rampaul with Fidel Edwards.
