Defending National Rugby League champions South Sydney stretched their unbeaten start to three wins as they fought off Wests Tigers 20-6 on Sunday.
The Tigers led early before the Rabbitohs replied with two tries by Dylan Walker and one apiece by Greg Inglis and Alex Johnston.
Walker could face a month on the sidelines after sustaining a suspected broken hand during the win at the Olympic Stadium.
The Newcastle Knights are the big early season movers under new coach Rick Stone, beating the Gold Coast Titans with a late try on Sunday.
Knights forward Jeremy Smith scored with four minutes left as Newcastle kept their unbeaten status with a 20-18 win.
Having lost in the final moments of their season opener against Wests Tigers, Gold Coast have now lost their first three matches of the season for the first time since their wooden spoon campaign in 2011.
Penrith Panthers get the chance to join South Sydney and Newcastle as the only unbeaten teams if they can put away the Sydney Roosters in the remaining game of the third round on Monday.
Melbourne forward Tohu Harris scored two tries as he led the Storm to a 36-18 win over the hapless Cronulla Sharks at home.
The Storm ran in six tries and the defeat means Cronulla remains winless after three rounds while the Storm have won two of their three opening games.
Rookie centre Solomone Kata scored a double as the New Zealand Warriors held off Parramatta's second-half comeback to mark their first home match of the season with a 29-16 win.
Four tries in 17 first-half minutes set up the victory as the Warriors dominated possession in the opening stages in Auckland.
But after Kata completed his double early in the second half, the Warriors had to withstand a spirited comeback by the Eels.
