Toulouse face a key test of their championship credentials when they host Clermont at home in Top 14 action this weekend.
The former four-time European champions' woes on the road showed no sign of abating last weekend as they went down 26-19 to Brive, extending their winless away run to seven months.
So it is with somewhat bated breath that they welcome heavyweight hitters Clermont to the Ernest Wallon Stadium on Saturday, with notable concerns over set-piece fallibility.
"Among the sectors we're working on and will have to continue to work on, the scrum has become a priority," admitted Toulouse coach Guy Noves.
"It cost us dear in La Rochelle and it costs us 10 more points against Brive."
The all-conquering Toulouse scrum of 2012, masterminded by Yannick Bru and key to the French league victory over Toulon, is absent, but Noves said it was not his assistant's fault.
"Bru has not always had the players at his disposition to exploit their qualities," Noves said.
Georgian prop Vasil Kakovin (tibia) is doubtful for Clermont, South African prop Schalk Ferreira (biceps) is out until January and compatriot tighthead Gurthro Steenkamp is on Four Nations duty with the Springboks.
There are now also doubts over Samoan giant Census Johnston, while former 'Bok hooker Chiliboy Ralepelle is in playing limbo over a doping case.
"It's not ideal, but that's rugby. Injuries happen," said former All Black prop Corey Flynn, one of Toulouse's off-season signings.
"You just have to adapt and be sure that the guys coming in are capable of doing the work."
Noves was quick to add, however, that the set-piece was not his only focus.
"When you think of Clermont, you don't think solely of the scrum..." he warned, referring to Clermont's 32-6 attack-led thrashing of Racing-Metro last weekend.
One Clermont player to miss the match will be former All Black Zac Guildford, likely to be out of action for up to four weeks after he and team-mate Jonathan Davies were assaulted in the centre of the city celebrating that victory over Racing.
The 25-year-old Kiwi, who had a record of ill discipline off the pitch in New Zealand before he made the move to France in the summer, was left with a badly-bruised jaw.
Defending champions Toulon entertain Stade Francais in Saturday's other stand-out match, with both sides having notched up three victories in their four games to date.
In other games on Saturday, Brive travel to Bayonne and Oyonnax host Grenoble, while Bordeaux-Begles line up a powerful Montpellier team on Sunday.
In the only weekend fixture played Friday, veteran Fijian winger Sireli Bobo ran riot as he helped lift newly-promoted La Rochelle off the bottom of the table with a 41-16 victory which piled more misery on Castres.
Castres, the 2013 champions and last season's runners-up, are in huge difficulty since their opening defeat to Stade Francais, and now prop up the bottom of the table after five matches.
Fixtures
Saturday
Toulouse v Clermont (1245), Bayonne v Brive, Oyonnax v Grenoble, Racing-Metro v Lyon (all 1630), Toulon v Stade Francais (1845)
Sunday
Bordeaux-Begles v Montpellier (1230)
