One policeman was killed and four others were injured when an armed group attacked a convoy of pilgrims in Um Zuriqa region while they were en route to El-Fashir city, capital of Northern Darfur, said South Darfur Governor Adam Mahmoud Jar al-Nabi.
In statements to reporters on Saturday, Jar Al-Nabi said a security coordination meeting will be held between Darfur provinces to coordinate the protection of trade convoys and clear borders from rebels and armed groups.
He also said a decision has been taken to ban carrying weapons, wearing masks and the use of motorbikes in the southern districts of South Darfur.
