Qena - Arab Today

Qena Criminal Court has adjourned until February the trial of 74 members of the terrorist Muslim Brotherhood group on charges of attacking leaders of Aswan police headquarters.

The court delayed the session on Sunday for the witnesses’ testimonies and defense pleadings.

The prosecution had accused the defendants of torturing a number of senior police officials in Aswan and attacking security troops in the Upper Egyptian city.

They are also standing trial for setting ablaze central security vehicles and storming the Aswan city hall.

The defendants had attempted to kill policemen during incidents of violence that occurred outside the city hall in the wake of the crackdown on MB protest camps in Cairo in August 2013, according to the prosecution.

Fifty-four of the defendants are held in Qena Prison. Those include Khaled el Qoussi, the deputy secretary of the Construction and Development Party in Aswan, three former members of the People's Assembly and Shura Council, the chairman of the MB administrative office and the chairman of the syndicate of engineers in Aswan.
