Almaty stages \"Apple Fest\" to celebrate city day

\"Apple Fest 2011,\" the second festival of this kind ever held in Almaty, was launched here Sunday to mark the city\'s \"Day of the City.\" The festival is aimed at returning the city the former fame of \"Apple City.\" At the Astana Square, 26 apple-growing and apple-selling companies transported 15 tons of apples of different tastes and varieties to the celebration scene for sale. The city day falls on the third Sunday of the first month in autumn. Every year, the local government and civil organizations hold a series of activities to celebrate the day.
