Beirut, an art space co-founded by Sarah Rifky and Jens Maier-Rothe in May 2012, imagines the fictional presence of such contemporary art collections with this year-long project. Thirty artworks borrowed from the Kadist Art Foundation (Paris, San Francisco), an interdisciplinary institution with a growing contemporary art collection, will take up residence in Cairo from May 2014 to April 2015. According to its chairman, Vincent Worms, the foundation constantly engages in programmes and projects that foster collaborations between its local contexts and international artists, curators and art organisations. Described by Beirut as a "temporary guest to the city," this miniature collection will appear in various shows and events across Cairo, realised in collaboration with Contemporary Image Collective, Townhouse, Institut Francais d'Égypte au Caire, Gypsum Gallery, ArtTalks, Goethe Institut, Cimatheque, and the public. An exhibition spread out across three venues, the Contemporary Image Collective (CIC), Townhouse and Beirut will kick off the project on 6 and 7 May. The show features works by artists with international acclaim, some of them making their Egyptian debut. The showcased artists include, Eleanor Antin, Taysir Bhatniji, Zarina Bhimji, Nicolas Consuegra, Hans Peter Feldman, Aurélien Froment, Ryan Gander, Ji?í Kovanda, John Menick, Charlotte Moth, Melvin Moti, The Propeller Group & Superflex, Mungo Thomson, Walid Raad, Akram Zaatari.
