Once A Proud Canadian
London - Arab Today

Author James T. Sawada feels there are still lessons to be learned from the past, lessons the modern world needs. Specifically, he draws on his experience as a second-generation Canadian of Japanese ancestry. He shares these lessons and more in his epic historical novel, “Once A Proud Canadian” (published by Trafford Publishing).
This novel spans centuries and continents to bring to readers the story of “Kakure Kirishitan” (“hidden Christians”) in Japan, missionary Francis Xavier’s arrival at Kagoshima, Japan, and the evacuation of the Japanese Canadians from the west coast.
The main character of “Once A Proud Canadian” is a survivor of the atomic bombing of Nagasaki. He narrates the story of how he came to be there on that fateful day. He then recounts what happened to the hidden Christians following the events in Nagasaki.
“It is a unique, one-of-a-kind historical novel that will appeal to any open-minded person who is looking for an exciting book that not only challenges the status quo, but also has the potential to change their attitudes and beliefs,” Sawada says.
