London - Arab Today

Kevin Vieldhouse, a detective in the Street Gang Unit of the New Jersey State Police and ex-professional boxer, has completed his newest book “Colorblind”: a spine tingling work that grabs hold of the reader with its intricate plot line and demands to be read.
On his inspiration to write this novel, author Kevin Vieldhouse said, “It’s two fold. One- I was a blond-haired, blue-eyed, suburban kid, who became interested in boxing. I ventured into a crime-ridden town of Paterson, NJ, against my parent’s wishes, to pursue this barbaric sport. I happened to be pretty good and eventually had 15 professional fights-many televised. Since I was the “minority” I did experience, early on, racism. However, once I got into the ring and proved myself, all was good. My second inspiration was a family that I met while working a summer job in a warehouse. The family was Hispanic and lived in a very poverty stricken area in Paterson. The father worked with me and I was amazed how he could support his wife and two kids making the same money as me? We became close and I was equally impressed with his living conditions. The house was amongst run down and abandoned homes, however it was well taken care of; neat, clean painted, old but nice furniture etc. They were also good parents, doing and wanting the best for their kids. It struck me as to how much we were truly alike, even while growing up and living in completely opposite venues. Also, how much my stereo-typical views were wrong.”
Published by New York City-based Page Publishing, Kevin Vieldhouse’s poignant tale shines a light on the dreary fact that racism knows no bounds. The side the feels the racism matters not, what matters is that in the end, the hope of equality never fades, and finding the ability to be colorblind is of the highest of goals.
James and Billy were caught in a boxing rivalry; behind the ring they are two men living in different worlds and experiencing different struggles. One living in an above-average life where boxing is just a hobby, and good education is waiting; the other one lived his whole life trying to live, stuck in a bad neighborhood, starting a new family. One is going through a life-changing sickness and the other one is going through difficulty of racism. They find each other in an unexpected situation. Eventually they became great friends, developed mutual respect, and introduced their own worlds with each other. Together, they helped each other reach their dream—to be great fighters.
