Germany warns direct Russia-Ukraine clash must be avoided

Germany's foreign minister warned Sunday that direct Russia-Ukraine military clashes must be avoided at all cost, speaking ahead of a crisis meeting on the conflict in the former Soviet state.
Frank-Walter Steinmeier said all sides must be "very careful ... about sliding ever deeper into a direct confrontation between Ukrainian and Russian armed forces".
"This must be avoided at all cost," said Steinmeier ahead of Berlin talks with his counterparts from Moscow,
