Manama - BNA

Works Minister Essam bin Abdullah Khalaf has revealed the Ministry's plans for several projects aimed to improve the sanitary network in the Kingdom.
These projects include the Muharraq Ring Road Project at a total cost of BD 5,360,000 , the Tubli Water Treatment Plant Expansion project with an estimated additional capacity of 200,000 cubic metres, the planned elimination of 95% of solid substances from Tubli Bay and the sewage sludge drying productivity boosting to 52 metric tonnes/day.
The Minister told Al-Watan newspaper that the cost of the first phase of Muharraq Ring Road Project reaches BD 5,036,237 and that the project's planning, designing, technical specifications, material quantity survey are well underway in order to calculate the estimated cost for its implementation. Bids would then be invited by the Tender Board from pre-qualified bidders in order to award to the least bidder which would be the correct and final cost for the project.
The Minister said that the estimated cost for the second phase of the Muharraq circular project cannot be determined although an initial amount of $250 million has been allocated for the project as part of the Gulf Support Plan.
The Minister said that the final Gulf Railway route inside Bahraini territories has not been decided yet. However there are 3 options pending the study. The company assigned to carry out the final route studying has not finished yet. However the fourth causeway project has come according to the needs of a thoroughly completed feasibility study.
The Minister said that among the challenges facing sanitary engineering in Bahrain was the high average ratio of an individual's consumption of municipal waters and concomitant production of more than 500 litres/day of sewage water per capita in some areas.
The Minister added that the problem is that some new residential quarters or investment zones might not been connected as a result of the limited capacity of water supply/treatment networks.
The Ministry plans to announce three tenders for construction of limited rainwater treatment networks all over the Kingdom: A3, B3 and C3, according to the Minister. The Ministry also plans to announce another tender for a feasibility study for construction of rainwater drainage infrastructure project, the Minister added.
