ADFD grant will fund the first phase to construct a state-of-the-art 940-bed hospital accommodate 1,200 patients daily.
Amman - Arab Today

Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) announced a AED735 million ($200 million) UAE grant earmarked for expansionary works at King Hussein Medical City. This latest contribution is in line with the framework of the 2013 UAE government grant contribution of AED4.6 billion ($1.25 billion) to the Gulf Development Fund, a five-year grant program from the GCC member countries to finance development projects in line with the government of Jordan’s strategic goals.
The grant will fund the first phase of the expansionary works — specifically to construct a state-of-the-art 940-bed hospital capable of accommodating 1,200 patients daily.
Mohammed Saif Al-Suwaidi, director general of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD); Imad N Fakhoury, the Jordanian Minister of Planning & International Cooperation; Bilal Al-Bdour, UAE Ambassador to Jordan; Major General Muin Al-Habashneh, Director General of the Royal Medical Services (RMS) in Jordan; and several senior Jordanian officials were present at the announcement.
Reaffirming ADFD’s commitment toward sustainable long-term growth, Al Suwaidi said: “Over the past four decades, ADFD has maintained strategic and close friendly ties with the Kingdom of Jordan. This new contribution reflects the UAE leadership’s wise directives and keenness to continuously build on bilateral ties with brotherly states.”
He added: “The expansionary project at the King Hussein Medical City is a clear action by the Jordanian government to always provide only the best to its citizens. Moreover, this initiative is in line with ADFD’s goals to drive socio-economic growth, invest in infrastructure and create new job opportunities.”
Muin Al-Habashneh commended the UAE’s dedication toward sustainable development. He praised ADFD’s significant role in supporting the health care sector in Jordan which in-turn has greatly benefited the Jordanian population at large. Moreover, he lauded the many contributions over the past two years, notably the $20 million grant for the Queen Rania Hospital for Children and the $16 million grant for the radiotherapy-oncology treatment center at Queen Alia Hospital.
