Car imports
Algiers - APS

The bill of Algerian car imports is expected to decline by more than 20% in 2014, confirming a decrease in sales that began in mid-2013 after an exceptional increase the year before.
Thus, imports of cars reached DZD 4.14 billion (billion dollars) in the first nine months of 2014, against DZD 5.42 billion in the same period in 2013, registering a fall of nearly 24%, according to Algerian Customs that expect a decrease of over 20% for the full year 2014.
The number of imported vehicles has declined by 26%, i.e. from 439,282 units in the first nine months of 2013 to 324,681 cars in the same period of 2014, the customs’ National Centre for Informatics and statistics (CNIS).
After an exceptional year in 2012, during which imports of cars reached nearly USD seven (7) billion for more than 600,000 cars, Customs expect a further decline in imports by more than 20% in value during 2014 against a decrease of nearly 7% the year before.
This decline began in 2013 when car imports were estimated at USD 6.35 billion against 6.83 billion in 2012.
