National Electric Power Company (NEPCO)
Amman - Petra

The cabinet discussed on Wednesday the issue of National Electric Power Company (NEPCO) incurring increasing losses as a result of disruption of the Egyptian gas supplies.
The cabinet meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, listened to a briefing on the mounting losses of the company, with the public treasury transferring JD 1.8 billion to NEPCO during the first eight months of 2014, even as the losses are expected to reach some JD1.45 billion by the end of the year.
The recommendations of the Economic Development Committee, also on cabinet's agenda, focused on the transportation sector indicators for the April to June 2014 period. The committee reiterated that the transport sector is a promising one and could bolster its contribution to the national economy.
The report shows an increase in the aviation sector's performance indicators during the second quarter of this year, compared to the same period last year, with the Queen Alia International Airport witnessing a rise in the number of arriving and departing aircraft by up to 10 percent.
The number of passengers arriving at the airport also increased by 30 percent, while departures increased by 28 percent.
