Kuwaiti lawmakers underlined Wednesday the importance of upgrading the state executive apparatus, diversifying national economy, countering corruption, protecting public funds and addressing the issues of housing, education, and healthcare.
During their deliberations about the content of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's speech at the opening of the third session of the 14th legislative term October 28, the MPs asked the government to speed up the pace of executing mega projects, especially those included in the state development plan.
They urged the government to shoulder responsibility towards the goal of diversifying the national economy and income resources to shield the state against the negative effects of fluctuation and deterioration of oil prices.
The MPs described His Highness the Amir's speech as a roadmap for both the executive and legislative powers to meet the aspiration of Kuwaiti people.
They added that that they are looking forwards towards active and fruitful cooperation with the executive branch for the benefit of the state and the people.
The lawmakers underscored the need to turn His Highness the Amir's speech into a legislative plan of action to pass necessary laws to protect the national unity, counter extremism and terrorism and diversify the national economy.
They called for activating the parliament's tools to oversee the performance of government bodies and to put the state above personal interests and to empower and support the youth.
They stressed the need to expand the private sector's role in the national economy, job creation and implementation of the state development plan.
The lawmakers vowed to accelerate efforts to address the issues of illegal residents, housing welfare, education and healthcare.
They urged the government to be vigilant and to take all necessary measures to protect the country's security and stability against the negative repercussions of the regional unrest.
Then the National Assembly Speaker adjourned the session and set November 18 a date for the next regular session.
