Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab inaugurated Tuesday Ain Shams sanitary station, currently the biggest sewage station in the Middle East.

The ministers of housing and local development, the Cairo governor, Housing Ministry leaders and chairman of Arab Contractors Company attended the event.

During the inauguration, the housing minister lauded the efforts of the workers in the project, adding that the project was suspended for five years.

Work in the project was resumed a year ago and ended three months ahead of the deadline, he said.

The minister said that the expansions implemented in the station are within the capacity of 300,000 cubic meters per day at the cost of 410 million pounds.

The station serves 1.800 million people in five lively districts in Cairo including Heliopolis, Ain Shams, Amiriya, Marg, Matariya and part of Nasr City.

On the other hand, Head of the executive body of drinking water and sanitation Hassan el Far said that the project aims at increasing the capacity of the water lifting station.

The work in the first stages is finished completely, Far said, adding that the modernist technology is used in the project.

Mahlab asserted the necessity to train the workers on the operation of the project after several years stop.

At the end of the inauguration, Mahlab honored a number of distinguished workers.
