Malaysian Ambassador in Cairo Datoko Jaafar said Tuesday his government is seeking to establish an industrial zone as part of the Suez Canal Corridor project.
The Suez Canal Corridor will be a top priority of the Malaysian government in the coming stage, Datoko said on the sidelines of a meeting of the Malaysian Palm Oil Council.
Malaysia is a party to China's Silk Road, which connects China to Italy, passing by the Suez Canal, Datoko said, noting this is why the government is acting to benefit from this road.
He urged the Malaysian government and companies to act to connect the Strait of Malacca, which is located between Malay Peninsula and the Indonesian island of Sumatra, to the Suez Canal.
That project will contribute to connecting the shipping industry around the world, Datoko said, noting that 70 percent of ships coming from Europe to China and Korea cross the Strait of Malacca.
