Transport Minister Galal el Saeed
Cairo - MENA

Transport Minister Galal el Saeed unveiled on Sunday investment projects worth 50 billion pounds to improve transport services in Egypt.

During a meeting with Head of Mustaqbal Watan (Future of a Nation) party Ashraf Rashad and a number of lawmakers, Saeed talked about the ministry's plans and strategy to improve transport services in the coming period.

He said that the ministry has embarked on several projects to establish container terminals in Damietta, Alexandria, and develop railway crossings nationwide.

The World Bank is currently funding five projects to modernize railway signaling systems in Egypt, he said, adding that train wagons have been imported at a total cost of one billion dollars.

It is the first time to work on two metro phases at the same time, the minister pointed out, revealing that the construction of the first phase of Cairo's 4th metro line will start within a few months.

Rashad, for his part, expressed his party's eagerness to participate in projects carried out by the Transport Ministry to curb traffic accidents in Egypt.

He further praised efforts exerted by the ministry to improve services provided for citizens.
