Prime minister Sherif ismail
Cairo - MENA

Abdel Fattah El Sisi held a meeting Tuesday with Prime Minister Sherif Ismail to discuss the government's strategies on development of several sectors and projects aiming to create new job opportunities in the fields of housing, energy, electricity and transport.

Ministers of planning, housing, electricity, transport and petroleum attended the discussions.

Ismail briefed the president on details of the 2030 sustainable development strategy, expected to be implemented as of July.

Presidential spokesman Alaa Youssef said that President Sisi highlighted the importance of making use of available local resources, while accomplishing all projects.

Also, the sustainable development strategy shall include clear key performance indicators (KPIs) that would help evaluate work progress, the spokesman quoted President Sisi as having said.

The projects, discussed during the meeting, included a water plant in the 10th of Ramadan City which would supply the cities of Al Shorouk, Obour, Gulf of Suez with up to 600,000 cubic meters a day, Housing Minister Mustafa Madbouli.

The first phase of the project was completed to serve the new capital city, the minister added.

He said a sewage pumping system and drinking water station have already been delivered to supply 400,000 cubic meters a day.

Electricity Minister Mohamed Shaker said a new power plant in Giza would join the network before next summer as part of an urgent plan to ease the high rates of consumption.

A development plan was set for two plants in Assuit and Damietta to produce 1,000 mega watts and 500 mega watts respectively, Shaker told the president.

For his part, Transport Minister Saad el Gioushy reviewed the strategic plan to develop road networks nationwide.

According to the minister, the new roads included the construction of highways linking the Red Sea area with the Upper Egyptians cities, and Cairo with Alexandria.

A partnership agreement was also made with the German elite Dresden University of Technology (TUD) to establish Egypt's first university of transportation technology, Gioushy said.
