The general syndicate for spinning and weaving workers urged President Abdel Fattah El Sisi to place the file of saving the textile industry under his own patronage and consider it a national project like the Suez Canal axis project.
In a letter to Sisi and the ministers of trade, industry, manpower, finance and investment, head of the syndicate, Abdel Fattah Ibrahim, called on the president to save this industry under which over one million workers are serving.
He added that textiles industry was one of the strategic industries in the previous century that helped the country to realize development, but an intrigue was tailored to subvert this industry in favor of interests of other countries.
The intrigue was meant to convert Egypt from an industrial state into a consuming state, he said.
He urged a swift action as many textile companies have already closed and others are financially-strapped.
