
Egyptian Armed Forces Engineering Authority Chief Maj.-Gen. Kamel el-Wazir said Monday the delay in tunnels under the Suez Canal continued for between 10 and 15 years which saw an increase in population in areas on the two sides of the canal.
In statements, Wazir said the tunnels will help better link Sinai to the rest of the country and to develop the people and trade movement.
As many as two big tunnel groups will be dug north of Ismailia the first is for cars and trucks while the other is for railways.
Moreover, another tunnel groups will be dug south of Port Said governorate then followed by two similar groups in Suez.
The first tunnel group will be opened with the launching of the Suez Canal Development Corridor project, he said.
