Chinese President Xi Jinping arrived in Sri Lanka Tuesday on a visit highlighting major China-backed construction projects, dpa reported.
Xi was welcomed by his Sri Lankan counterpart Mahinda Rajapaksa after
his arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport from the Maldives.
China, the biggest foreign investor in Sri Lanka and the second-largest trading partner after India, is set to launch megaprojects including the construction of a 1.4-billion-dollar port
city close to the capital Colombo, and a Chinese-owned container terminal.
Xi is also due to take part in the opening of the third phase of a Chinese-built coal power station.
Bilateral talks between the two leaders are due to take place later Tuesday.
