Egypt takes part in G20 meetings for first time

For the first time, Egypt took part in the meetings of G20, an international forum for coordinating international economic policies, as a guest of honor during China's presidency of the group meetings in 2016.

Egypt, which was invited by the Chinese government, was represented by Raji el Atrebi, Deputy Assistant Foreign Minister, in the first group meeting bringing together personal representatives of the leaders of the 20 states.

The meeting was held in Beijing.

In press statements Sunday, Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry officially informed the Chinese government of President Abdel Fattah El Sisi's decision to allow Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Relations Magdi Radi together with Atrebi to act as the personal envoy of the president of Egypt during the G20 meetings.

Egypt's participation in such an important international platform comes in recognition of its regional and international heavyweight, the spokesman said.

The Egyptian delegation expounded its country's vision towards different economic issues tabled on the group agenda and ways of pushing forward the global economy and growth rate.

They underlined the importance of considering the interests of developing nations in international efforts aiming at achieving sustainable development.
