Japan PM arrives in India with eye on accord over shinkansen export

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe arrived in India on Friday for a three-day trip aimed at reaching an agreement to introduce Japanese bullet train technology for a high-speed railway project to the South Asian country, as Tokyo hopes to bolster ties with the fast-growing economy, according to Kyodo News Agency.

Abe, who is making his third visit to India as prime minister, is set to hold talks on Saturday with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi, during which the two leaders will also move forward toward sealing a civil nuclear pact that would allow Japan to export nuclear power plant technology to India, Japanese officials said.

Before departing for India, Abe told reporters at his office in Tokyo that he hopes cooperation in the railway sector, security and nuclear energy will provide a "strong impetus for moving forward Japan-India relations."
