The Parliament's Economy and Investment Committee discussed on Monday with a delegation from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) the income tax draft law, which the committee forwarded to the Lower House for debate next Wednesday, chairman of the committee MP Khair Abu Seileik said on Monday.
The lawmaker made the remarks during a meeting with the Director of International Monetary Fund (IMF) for Middle East and Central Asia, Kristina Kostial, and an international expert on tax administration.
He also pointed that the committee discussed with Kostial means to apply the billing system in treatment expenses and education, which demands high taxation management efficiency to sign the bills.
Abu Seileik added that the panel and the international officials affirmed the need to improve the tax administration, while pointing to an initiative presented to the government to enhance tax performance.
The lawmaker added that the IMF official presented the idea of minimal tax level instead of tax brackets.
The committee questioned the feasibility of the idea which did not clarify the targeted segments as well as the added value.
