Kuwait's society delivers aid to flood-stricken people in Malawi

Kuwait's Islamic Heritage Revival Society on Monday provided assistance to people stricken with floods in Chickwawa and Man Kochi in the Republic of Malawi.
The head of the society's Africa department, Jassem Al-Ainati, told KUNA the society hurried to aid the people of Malawi who experienced the most disastrous floods since 50 years ago.
The floods destroyed houses, ravaged cultivated fields, demolished crops and claimed lives of cattle. Main roads and railways were either damaged or destroyed with the ravaging waters.
First batch of the Kuwait-supplied aid reached 580 families, Al-Ainati said, urging fellow Kuwaiti citizens to contribute to the relief efforts to relieve thousands of people in dire need for aid.
The ravaging waters demolished 13 cities and towns, he said, adding number of those affected reached 200,000.
Malawi, an African country with a 16 million population, 30 percent of whom are Muslims, have recently witnessed devastating floods that claimed 550 lives, made 200,000 others homeless and inflicted wide-scale destruction.
