Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra has held an "important" meeting with Canadian businessmen in Montreal, as part of his visit to Canada, the ministry of Foreign Affairs said Wednesday in a statement.
The meeting, organized by Canada-Algeria Business Alliance (CABA) and Quebec manufacturers and exporters (QME), brought together more than one hundred businessmen and company representatives, according to the statement.
The meeting was an opportunity for Lamamra to "give a full picture on the internal political reforms and the economic prospects and opportunities for partnership between Algeria and Canada."
"Relations between the two nations have been given a significant, fresh impetus after the state visit President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika paid to Canada in 2000."
As a result, there was "an important increase in trade, making of Algeria Canada's major economic partner in both Africa and the Arab World for several years," the ministry of Foreign Affairs underlined.
