Pakistan on Sunday sent two military transport planes with relief goods, search and rescue teams and a mobile hospital to earthquake-hit Nepal, officials said.

The death toll from Saturday's 7.9-magnitude earthquake had risen to 1,900 while around 5,000 others were injured, Nepali officials said.

Rescue efforts have been intensified after the appeal of Nepalese authorities to the international community for help following the devastating quake.

The Pakistani military said the 30-bed hospital is comprised of Pakistan army team of specialists, including surgeons, orthopedists, gynecologists, anesthesiologists, pediatricians, radiologists and paramedics.

A search and rescue team of the Pakistan army, which is specialized in rescues during natural disasters, is also part of the consignment. The team is equipped with ground penetrating radars, concrete cutter and sniffer dogs.

Relief items being dispatched include 2,000 ready-to-eat meals, bottled water, medicines, 200 tents and 600 blankets.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif called his Nepalese counterpart Sushil Koirala on Saturday to extend all possible assistance.

The Kathmandu airport, which was shut down for hours following Saturday's devastating quake, reopened for the arrival of foreign aids.
