
More than 300 industry experts attended the Solar Qatar Summit which is Under the patronage of HE Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President of Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation "KAHRAMAA" today at the Ritz-Carlton, Doha- QATAR.
The day started with an opening address from H.E. Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al-Kuwari, President, Qatar General Electricity & Water Corporation – Kahramaa, followed by a detailed presentation on Kahramaa 's plans for implementing solar energy projects in Qatar by Saleh Hamad Al-Marri, Head of Renewable Energy Technologies Section, Kahramaa.
Qatari based company, Qatar Solar Energy (SQE) has launched the largest solar energy plant in the Middle East. In his presentation, Salim Abbassi, CEO of Qatar Solar Energy talked about their manufacturing facility which will produce two types of high efficiency crystalline modules.
In addition, the facility will also produce Bifacial modules which has the ability to produce additional energy from the back side of the module using reflected sun rays on the backside of the module. In line with the Qatar National Vision 2030, this new facility will aim at reducing the nation’s dependence on fossil fuels.
Speakers from world over are participating at the 2 day Summit talking about developments in the renewable energy sector. Prof. Eicke R. Weber, Director of Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, the largest solar energy institute in Europe, spoke about the role that solar energy plays in the global energy transformation. Another interesting presentation was given by Omran Al Kuwari, CEO of GreenGulf where he disclosed the first year findings from the Solar Test Facility at QSTP.
Today we heard from various sustainability experts including Eng. Abdulla Hassan Al-Meshadi, CEO, Msheireb Properties; Bradley Jason Horn, Senior Renewable Energy Analyst, New Energy Department, Qatar Petroleum; Salah S. Nezar, Sustainability Director, Qatar Project Management; Eng. Mohuiddin Sami Jamaleddin, Senior Architect & Senior Urban Planner, Ministry of Municipality.
Tomorrow we have Mohamed Nagib Omara, Technical Advisor to the President of Kahramaa, talking about Positioning of Solar energy in the MENA; Qatar Green Building Council will talk about The Passivhaus Experiment and the Implications for Retrofitting PV; Carlos St. James, Chairman, Middle East-Americas Energy Council (MEAMEC) will be giving us a perspective on Solar in the Americas & Cross points with Qatar and Dr. Amer Aladhadh, Economic Development Advisor, Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Qatar will talk about PPP and Infrastructure Development.
