
The number of home mortgages granted to prospective buyers in Spain increased by 26.3 percent in June when compared with the same month in 2014, according to data published Monday by Spain's Statistical Office (INE).
According to the INE, a total of 21,454 home mortgages were granted in June, a 8.7 percent rise on a month-on-month basis and a 26.3 percent rise on a yearly basis.
The amount of capital loaned in June rose by 31.7 percent year-on-year to a total of 2.22 billion euros (2.49 billion U.S. dollars), while the average value of mortgages stood at 103,626 euros, marking a 4.2 percent increase when compared to a year earlier.
The INE also reported that in the first semester in 2015, the number of home mortgages increased 21.1 percent, with the amount of capital loaned rising by 25.3 percent on a year-on-year basis and the average value of mortgage rising 3.4 percent.
Home mortgages have been rising for 13 months after having sharply fallen due to the property crash of 2008.
