Taiwan's outbound sales orders totaled 38.02 billion U.S. dollars in May, up 4.7 percent year on year, according to the island's statistics.
From January to May, the outbound sales orders saw an annual increase of 4.4 percent, reaching 181.64 billion U.S. dollars, a record high.
Lin Lee-jen, a statistic authority official, said the fast growth was due to sales of electronic products and portable devices. Electronic products totaled 9.52 billion U.S. dollars, a 12.6 percent year-on-year rise.
Lin said June's outbound sales orders are expected to exceed 5 percent because of the recovering global economy.
She predicted that such orders will continue to grow in the latter half of the year.
