The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) Commissioner-General Pierre Krahenbuhl demanded Sunday USD 47 million in urgent aid from Arab countries to the war-torn Gaza Strip.
There is an urgent need for financial aid to the Strip currently and rebuilding operations need to be tackled seriously, Krahenbuhl said at the 142th Arab Foreign Minister Meeting, kicked off here Sunday.
He called on the Arab countries to move immediately and not to wait for weeks before sending the aid as Gaza people are in dire need of it.
The UN official said that the UNRWA has run dry of resources after the Israeli war on Gaza.
The UNRWA is suffering from budget deficit amounts to USD 50 million, he said.
Krahenbuhl thanked Arab states which have effectively contributed to and financed UNRWA activities in the region.
