UNICEF distributes winter aid for 75,000 children in Lebanon

UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) said Friday it was distributing aid for around 75,000 Syrian and Palestinian children refugees, as well as on Lebanese children in areas hit by the winter storm.
UNICEF Representative in Lebanon Anna-Maria Lorini said in a statement the UN agency was working on addressing the aftermath of the storm on the vulnerable children and families.
She said maximum efforts should be exerted to avoid disasters "which can be prevented." Lorini warned against the growing number of Syrian refugees who might be forced to live in tents because they do not have necessary resources, which would increase the "number of needy children who are exposed to danger on a daily basis." She said UNICEF allocated USD 11.5 million to help around 465,000 children refugees in Lebanon. Lorini added that UNICEF distributed over 70,000 winter packages since mid-December 2014.
Lorini said UNICEF-funded mobile medical teams have checked and treated more than 1,600 Syrian refugees.
She said piles of snow have prevented trucks and mobile medical units from reaching people in need.
There are more than a million refugees in Lebanon.
