Grains closed mixed on the Chicago Board of Trade Tuesday with the dollar index flat, dropping 0.05 percent on the International Exchange. Corn was up 3 to up 6 1/2; soybeans were off 8 1/4 to off 25; wheat was up 2 to up 6 1/2 and oats were unchanged to up 2. Corn and wheat prices firmed Tuesday on a day with no major economic releases that would influence traders. Soybean futures dropped sharply with a slowdown in demand expected with new supplies available from South America. The prices: Corn: Mar 7.41 up 6 1/2; May 7.14 1/4 up 3; Jly 6.93 3/4 up 3; Sep 5.82 up 3 1/4. Soybeans: Mar 14.89 3/4 off 25; May 14.68 3/4 off 10 3/4; Jly 14.45 3/4 off 9; Aug 13.99 off 8 1/4. Wheat: Mar 7.00 1/2 up 6 1/2; May 7.03 1/2 up 3 1/2; Jly 7.03 3/4 up 2; Sep 7.10 1/2 up 2 1/4. Oats: Mar 4.25 up 2; May 3.94 up 1; Jly 3.82 unchanged; Sep 3.71 3/4 unchanged.
