The central parity rate of the Chinese currency renminbi, or the yuan, weakened 143 basis points to 6.6738 against the US dollar Wednesday, according to the China Foreign Exchange Trading System.
In China's spot foreign exchange market, the yuan is allowed to rise or fall by 2% from the central parity rate each trading day, according to China's (Xinhua) News Agency.
The central parity rate of the yuan against the US dollar is based on a weighted average of prices offered by market makers before the opening of the interbank market each business day.

Two months after legendary designer Azzedine Alaia's sudden death plunged the fashion world into mourning, an exhibition in homage to the "King of Cling" opens Monday in his studios in Paris. The Tunisian-born designer, renowned for the way his clothes hugged the body, died suddenly in November aged 82, reportedly of heart failure after falling down the stairs at his home.
