The euro stayed steady against the U.S. dollar and the Japanese yen on Friday in Tokyo on growing prospects that Greece will avoid a proposed referendum. At 5 p.m., the euro fetched 1.3800-3802 dollar and 107.70-74 yen against 1.3817-3827 dollar and 107.87-97 yen in New York at 5 p.m. Thursday and 1.3758-3760 dollar and 107.49-53 yen in Tokyo at 5 p.m. Wednesday. The dollar was quoted at 78.04-06 yen versus 78.01-11 yen in New York late Thursday afternoon and 78.13-15 yen in Tokyo late Wednesday afternoon. It moved between 77.99 yen and 78.12 yen during the day, changing hands most frequently at 78.10 yen.
